Core Programs
Monpugh Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Houston, Texas, that operates a horticulture-focused group home for young adults who have aged out of the foster care system. Our program uses hands-on gardening and plant therapy as a healing modality, helping residents build life skills, responsibility, and personal empowerment. Through this model, residents tend raised garden beds that produce medicinal plants and fresh food, connecting therapeutic practice with practical skills and community nourishment.
Guided by the principle of “sustainable resilience,” Monpugh also transforms underutilized urban spaces into thriving centers of sustainable agriculture, economic empowerment, and intergenerational healing. By combining horticulture, workforce development, trauma-informed support, and culturally anchored services, we address the root causes of insecurity—including poverty, trauma, and systemic marginalization—while fostering personal growth and community impact.
At Monpugh, horticulture and plant therapy are central to healing. Residents learn responsibility, patience, and self-confidence while cultivating food and medicinal plants. These gardens not only provide therapeutic benefits but also support our social enterprise, The Baked Exchange, where produce and herbs grown by residents are used to create baked goods and other products for the community.
This model provides practical business experience, generates revenue for programming, and strengthens the connection between personal growth and giving back.
